RCAAS and GSAPP faculty co-author article, The Use of Economic Manipulations to Influence Choice in Adolescents and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders

The article was co-authored by Dr. Robert LaRue, Clinical Professor, Director of Behavioral Services, DDDC and RCAAS; Dr. Christopher Manente, Executive Director, RCAAS, Associate Professor of Clinical Practice, Applied Psychology Department; Dr. Lauren Pepa, Psychologist, Supervisor, Consultant, RCAAS-PSC; Dr. Erica Dashow; Dr. James Maraventano, Director, RCAAS-SCALE Program; Dr. Kimberly Sloman; Dr. Kate Fiske, Clinical Associate Professor Emerita; Dr. Lara Delmolino Gatley, Associate Dean for Administration and Strategic Operations, GSAPP, Director, GSAPP's Applied and Academic Autism Services, Executive Director, DDDC; and Jenna Budge, LSW, Behavioral Analyst, DDDC. The purpose of the current investigation was to use economic manipulations to encourage three adolescents and adults with ASD and intellectual disabilities to complete nonpreferred activities without using physical prompting and/or escape extinction. The results are important, as they represent a way to incorporate choice into programming while limiting the need for intrusive prompting.
