Rutgers University is home to many neurodiverse students, staff, and faculty; however, their perspectives are not always heard, and their needs are not always addressed. The mission of the Rutgers Neurodiversity Taskforce is to improve organizational climate, and promote access, advocacy, and equity by sending a message that Rutgers is an institution that celebrates the neurodiversity of its beloved community. At the 3rd Annual Neurodiversity Summit, we highlighted the ongoing work of our Rutgers Neurodiversity Taskforce members, share the results of our data collection related to the existing landscape of accessibility for neurodiverse people at Rutgers, and celebrate the neurodiverse members of our community.
This year, in addition to exceptional workshop presenters, attendees can visit the VIP Exhibitor Showcase of 20+ tables in the LSC-Livingston Hall. Exhibitors are a variety of Rutgers units, and some external partners, showcasing their department/unit's commitment to supporting neurodivergent RU students, faculty & staff, and ensuring their success.
Our executive director, Dr. Christopher Manente, recently joined Cindy Gelormini of Spectrum Perspectives, to discuss what has been lacking in the system and how he'd like to address it, including creating a new job field and courses to specifically train people in how to work with people on the spectrum. He also shares his own journey related to challenges that he has encountered as a neurodivergent person himself. Later in the interview, our very own Elizabeth Dicker, RCAAS Accessibility Specialist, to discuss her own experiences as well as working at the center. Also, viewers will get to experience a tour of the facility itself.
